Come and practice SomaChi yoga by the sea in Phillip Island, 7-9th December 2018.
We will practice Somachi yoga, shamata (calm abiding) meditation and integrate these practices into our experience of nature, daily activities and being in relationship with others. We hope to develop greater awareness of self and other within our environment.
Do you want to deepen your SomaChi yoga practice or are you interested in beginning this highly evolved contemporary yoga practice? SomaChi Yoga has roots in Vinyasa yoga, Buddhism and Tai Chi. This means you practice flow asana with energetic transitions and movements, whilst grounding the mind and softening the heart.
Please come and join our small group of yogis (only 10 people to ensure full comfort and enjoyment) this Summer in Smiths Beach, Phillip Island.
We will arrive on Friday 7th December after 3pm and slowly familiarise ourselves with the gorgeous beach house we will call home for 2 days. This allows us to escape usual distractions and duties and encourages our meditative practices.

Set in the beautiful Smiths Beach area, which is a Nature Reserve, we can literally bunny hop, step and wallaby jump to the beach!
This retreat has the unique difference of combining SomaChi yoga and meditation whilst (mostly) maintaining silence. We create more space by refraining from usual chi-chat, conversations and the expected polite responses we are so conditioned to do. It isn’t that we are being rude or self-indulgent, but actually this space and practice encourages more compassion and a new way of relating to others.
We slowly let go of the week we’ve had as we practice our first SomaChi yoga class together. A slow practice to develop the ground and foundations absorbing the evening energy as the sun goes down. The sunset meditation practice will enable us to transition into more stillness and calming energy. Homemade supper will nourish us and encourage a restful sleep.
An early rise on Saturday so that we can practice our sun salutations with the sunrise. This second SomaChi yoga class is a perfect way to roll through the joints, releasing tension and promoting our Chi (energy) to flow freely through the body.
The classes are taught by Abbie, a senior SomaChi teacher and assisted by an other wonderful, experienced SomaChi teacher, Emily, who is coming especially to the island to give her fantastic adjustments, enhancements and personal flair!
Delicious breakfast will not only satisfy the hunger but delight the senses.
After breakfast we sit to practice shamata meditation. Watching the breath and noticing the thoughts coming and going like the clouds in the sky, we can begin to cut through some of our usual thought patterns and habits. In between sitting meditation we practice walking meditation, mindful tea and back to sitting. This cycle of meditative practice can feel less strict and harsh on the body and also helps us integrate the practice into everyday activities.

Looking out to sea we can experience the vastness of the ocean and experience a spacious quality further enhancing our sitting meditation practice.
The rest of the day will include a scrumptious home made lunch and dinner, more SomaChi yoga and meditation practice as well as some personal time for rest, reflection and other personal practices, either at the beach or at “our house”.
Sunday begins with Sunrise SomaChi yoga, a short meditation and pranayama (breathing practice).
Yummy breakfast is followed by a silent walk to the beach together. You can swim, sit, walk, find shells whilst trying to maintain presence in each activity. We will practice awareness and appreciation. Then finally comes our chance to slowly transition out of the silence by a picnic lunch together at the beach.

Practicing on the beach with the power of the wind, the sensation of the sand and the sound of the waves is truly invigorating.
There will be an essential oils perfume making session so you can take home a reminder of the weekend. Each time you smell your beautiful natural perfume hopefully you will remember to breath, soften and bring your awareness back to the present moment.
We will have a chance to practice on the beach if the weather permits which is truly special.
