Looking for Love in Rio de Janeiro…
Bom Dia/Good Morning from Rio de Janeiro
I write this blog post as I watch the sun rise in Rio de Janeiro. This is the view from the balcony of the apartment I am staying in. This apartment belongs to a Brazilian man I met at my home beach in Australia.
When I told my friends and family I had decided to visit him in Rio after our friendship had “blossomed” they thought I was mad!
I have been here for just over a month and what I can tell you is that I am glad I have this “adventurous” side to me. It has been a wonderful trip immersing myself in the Brazilian way of life and spending time with someone I have a very strong connection with.
Who knows what the future will hold, don’t worry I will keep you updated. For now I am living in the moment and trying to remain true to my practices as well as having some fun, some love and poorly attempting to learn Portuguese.
I have spent most of my time in Rio but we also visited Ibitipoca where the waterfalls and cliffs make a dramatic impact. This is less known to tourists and a bit of a mission to ge to, but that means you feel almost alone in the national park. Swimming in the fresh cooling water holes and exploring the many hiking trails are a wonderful alternative to city life. We also visited Arrial de Cabo. We were mostly searching for waves to surf, but the gorgeous Portuguese style houses and small towns were a real attraction. Actually I felt like I was in Goa, India which was once a Portuguese colony. The vibrant colourful houses, the long stretches of sea and the friendly carefree people took me back to Goa.
And of course you can’t visit Rio without visiting the famous Cristo Redentor – Christ the Redeemer Statue. It is seen from almost anywhere you stand in the city. With spectacular views, it perfectly displays what a beautiful part of the world Rio de Janeiro really is. But like any city, you must travel with great caution. I am lucky enough to be travelling with my local friend so for the most part I feel quite safe and comfortable. However, the waves are a bit bigger than I am use to surfing, so in the ocean I am definitely experiencing fear!!!
Speaking of ocean, time to get ready to go for a surf….
Tchau (Ciao) x
